best way to change piston rings?

I myself wouldn't copy the idea of Jan W.: letting run the motor without cooling water ... as it isn't required.

This is not my personal idea; some specialist do. In higher compression engine I can see the advantage of it. I see no harm in running the engine for a few seconds without water. I do that always after a rebuild to ensure an engine is running well to avoid draining the coolant in case something is wrong. I never encountered a problem.

de cilinderkop is hier, ik heb alle oppervlakken gereinigd ! the only liquid gasket i used was on the two side covers and for the inlaatspruitstaak. question:

the inlaatspruitstaak gasket has four holes where the bolts pass through. there is also a fifth small hole that is in the center that does not line up with any bolts. i placed this small hole at the bottom to line up with the channel leading to the intake.
is this correct? it seems that my old one was upside down! it looks like it lets extra gas drain out?

also what torque setting do the exhaust bolts get?

I can't imagine what you mean with that 5th hole

torque for exhaust 2 kgm = 20 Nm; dont overtighten otherwise the manifold cannot expand enough

the small hole at the bottom in the middle. i had this installed upside down from what the picture shows, i installed the new gasket with the hole facing the bottom this time.

The fifth hole is indeed a way out for excess fuel, so be sure to line it up with the hole in the manifold

its running better than ever, so far the only problem is that oil light comes on after the car has been running for 15 minutes. no matter what. the temperature of the heads is around 80º c the oil i am using is 20/50 and its not leaking anywhere. i suspect that my oil pump is worn or the main bearings are worn, i know what my next project is i guess. i am waiting for geert to send me a niew oil pressure sensor switch to see if that MIGHT be the problem bendankt!

You posted the oil light problem alreadu at 20 sept 2014.Didn't you inspect the bearings when the sleeves were out of the engine?

the bearings looked ok when i inspected them. i am planning on using an oil pressure gauge to find out what the pressure actually is. what is the proper oil pressure ?

i figured out the problem. i had adjusted kleppenstellen in the wrong order and so it ran but not right! now the engine runs very well, and very quiet. the red light only comes on a little bit after a very long idle and goes away as soon as i touch the pedal. the engine is running a bit cooler too.
